Congresswoman Tubbs Jones Secures $8 Million for Greater Cleveland
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones announces that $8 million will be appropriated for the improvement of transportation in the Greater Cleveland area. "I am pleased to announce federal funding appropriated to Greater Cleveland," said Rep. Tubbs Jones. "Transportation improvements are paramount in our communities and I will, therefore, continue to urge my Colleagues to increase federal funding for the next fiscal year." 

Dollars Coming Into Greater Cleveland: 

* Discretionary Grants to Airports - The Committee directed that priority be given to grant applications involving further development of the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport; replacement runway lighting, noise mitigation program and security upgrades. 

* New Starts Projects - preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project management, oversight, and construction of new systems and extensions Cleveland Berea, red line extension to Hopkins International Airport (1999 reallocation of funds not used). 

* Cuyahoga Scenic Rail Line - Cleveland-Akron-Canton commuter rail project, $3 million. Dollars We Specifically Requested: 

* Euclid Corridor: Requested $20 million; Received $ 4 million 

* East Side Transportation Center: Requested $7.7 million; Received $1 million of the Regional Transit Authority
