Deck the Hall: Decorated Mansion Tour

Over the years, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens has been a popular destination during the holiday season for its elaborate decorations and historically accurate settings. This year's event will feature both contemporary and traditional decorating schemes. The outdoor holiday light display is a winter wonderland that takes more than two months to assemble. It includes a small lighted village in the Lagoon and decorated trees in the restored drying yard. Inside the house, step back in time with the help of letters and other family mementos.

Experience the Seiberling Christmas of 1923 with festive decorations reminiscent of Irene Seiberling's wedding, a major social event at the time and held on Christmas Day, 1923. Family correspondence, clippings from local newspapers and historical photographs will help to recreate the wedding atmosphere. Fresh-cut greenery, large pine trees, silver tinsel garland and strands of clear white lights will be used to enhance many of the rooms in the mansion. Visitors to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens during this time will be made to feel like the wedding's invited guests. Evergreen garland, calla lilies, cyclamen, poinsettias and ferns will also enhance the display. Best of all, the Music Room will celebrate with a 25-foot Christmas tree strung with multicolor lights. -- Allison Bloom
