Visitors and returning Clevelanders may soon be welcomed to the city by Superman when they reach the baggage claim area of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

City Council is expected to vote to allow a permanent Superman display in the lower concourse of the airport. If approved, the display should be ready by summer.

Superman was born right here in Cleveland thanks to his creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster of the Glenville neighborhood. The Siegel and Shuster Society is behind the initiative to build the permanent exhibit. The display will educate travelers about the Man of Steel.

The exhibit will feature a large Superman statue that will be ideal for photo opportunities. The statue will pay tribute to the late creators. It will be displayed in an open room across from the baggage carousels. With any luck, “Meet me at Superman,” will be a common saying for travelers. An estimated 80 percent of travelers will see it.
