Witnesses to Fatal Accident Sought by Police
Mayfield Heights police are searching for witnesses to a fatal accident last Thursday morning. Kathleen Krebs, of Mentor, was killed when her vehicle slid off Interstate 271 near the Mayfield Road bridge and flipped, trapping her inside. Rescue workers say that, by the time they got to her, the position of her neck and body had caused her to suffocate. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash and are asking witnesses to contact the Mayfield Heights police department.

Record Snowfall Blankets Cleveland
It was the whitest Christmas in Cleveland, as a record 10.2 inches of snow fell at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport between midnight and 9 p.m. Wednesday. An additional inch fell before midnight on Christmas Eve, bringing the total to more than 11 inches in two days, the most snow since 6 inches fell back in 1944. A winter storm rose out of the Plains and crossed Ohio as it headed toward the New England. Forecasters expect an additional 3 inches mostly in the eastern suburbs.

Storm Causes Traffic Accidents
The State Highway Patrol said slippery road conditions caused a fatal, two-car crash Wednesday morning on State Route 5 in Portage County's Paris Township. A car slid left of center and into a pickup truck, killing the car's driver, 30-year-old Michael A. Demattio of Ravenna. In Euclid, two people were injured when there car made an illegal u-turn and collided with a city snow plow at Euclid Avenue and East 254th street. Officials at Hopkins International Airport closed the runways about 10:45 a.m. for 45 minutes Wednesday, and during the afternoon alternated runways while crews plowed away the snow.
