Parma's Mayor Decides Not to Run Again
After serving as Parma's mayor since 1994, Gerald Boldt says
he will not seek reelection. The announcement reverses a
declaration made earlier this year in which Boldt claimed that
he would seek another term. Boldt says after serving the
community for 29 years, the thought of spending time with his
family prompted the decision. The mayoral race in Parma is
considered to be wide open now, with no leading canditates.
TRW Donates Headquarters Building for
Clinic's Use
Shareholders at TRW, Inc. are expected to approve the sale of
the company to Northrup Grumman Corp. Wednesday, but officials
made one final gesture for the community where it got its
start. Chairman Philip Odeen announced Monday that TRW is
donating its headquarters in Lyndhurst, along with the 68
acres of land, to the Cleveland Clinic. The gift, estimated to
be worth about $60 million, is second only to the $100 million
given to the clinic last summer by the late Al Lerner and his
wife, Norma. Officials said they wanted to leave behind more
than just a memory. The clinic will reportedly use the
building for business and operations offices.
Police Say Dismissed Friar Killed Priest,
Set Fire
Cleveland police have arrested the man they say shot and
killed Father William Gulas and then started a fire to cover
up his crime. Daniel Montgomery, 37, who stood outside on
Saturday and comforted St. Stanislaus parishioners as they
grieved the loss of their beloved pastor, lived at the rectory
while training to become a Franciscan friar but had been fired
and was supposed to be gone by Wednesday. Montgomery is being
held in the City Jail and will be arraigned on charges of
aggravated murder and aggravated arson.
