Club Envy closed its doors Friday. The owners agreed to end a lease and sell the liquor license to the bar’s landlord, developer Ari Maron. Getting rid of a trouble-maker like Club Envy means West 25th Street neighborhood can improve as a hot destination.

Maron plans to raise the building and create parking for a 60-bed hostel that will open in the spring. Maron was behind the development of East Fourth Street. He’s been working to develop an “artisan neighborhood” in the Market District and didn’t want problematic Club Envy to ruin the plans.

The closing comes before the centennial celebration of the West Side Market and the International Public Markets Conference.

Club Envy’s liquor license might be transferred to the Bonbon Bake Shop, which is under construction.
