In an effort to make Cleveland more tourist friendly, RTA is introducing the “Cleveland Pass.” The Cleveland Pass is an easy-to-use pass to ride Cleveland’s public transit. The cards would cost $5 per day and can be purchased online, at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, hotels and at certain welcome centers operated by Positively Cleveland. The cost is the same as an all-day pass to RTA’s bus and rail routes.

Discounted fares for large groups of 100 or more are still being negotiated. Group rates would be booked in advance online. This way, visitors could print their passes before arrival.

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority officials expect the number of Cleveland tourists to dramatically increase thanks to the Horseshoe Casino, Greater Cleveland Aquarium and the medical mart convention center which should open up next year.

Giving visitors easy access to transportation is a helpful way to boost tourism and ensure their return to our great city. Enabling visitors to reach one destination after another without much hassle will likely cause them to spend more time and money in Cleveland.

The Super Bowl might be the only time throughout the year people look forward to commercials. It's the only occassion that the advertisements receive as much attention as the performances and the game itself. Feels weird looking forward to a commercial, doesn't it?

As expected, this year's Super Bowl will feature numerous witty and creative commercials. Many have been released early and can be watched on YouTube. Even better, one of the commercials this weekend will star some of Cleveland's own.

A deal to launch a ferry service across Lake Erie from Cleveland to Canada may be in the works.

If it goes through, the ferry would dock near the Cleveland Browns Stadium and go back and forth to Port Stanley, Ontario. The boat could be in operation by 2013 and would transport people, cars and a small number of trucks. Port Stanley officials want to limit the amount of trucks in order to focus on tourism, not industry.

The fare would run $30 per person for a voyage that lasts about 3 ½ hours.

Google Port Stanley. It seems to be a charming, but very little lakefront town. It looks like a smaller version of Vermillion, but with a better beach area. From the looks of their tourism website, there doesn’t seem to be much to do. Is it worth a seven hour boat ride for Clevelanders? Probably not when Put in Bay or Kelly’s Island is a closer destination.

However, Cleveland could definitely benefit from increased tourism from Ontario. It would be an easy way for Ontario residents to experience a new city and check out the new casinos, the Rock Hall and other museums and take in a sporting event.

Close to $7 million in federal government grants have been set aside for ships and a terminal for the first Northeast Ohio port city to settle on a ferry deal.

The ferry will be on a two-year trial. A similar ferry project that connected Rochester, N.Y., with Toronto failed miserably a few years back. Rochester officials hoped it would turn their city into a tourist destination, but that never materialized. The operation was cancelled after 80 days, after the ferry service racked up nearly $2 million in debt.

Don’t Act on Impulse: Ensure Your Holiday Pet Adapts to a New Home

Petco Encourages Welcoming a New Pet into the Home Responsibly

It is always fun and exciting to expand the family with a four-legged friend, but the decision should not be taken lightly, especially during the holidays. The holidays are often a busy time when people do not have the time or energy to focus on a new pet and this often means many dogs and cats aren’t acclimated properly into their homes.

This January, Petco™ is helping pet parents to insure a smooth transition for their new bundle of joy with a variety of services and unique technologies and products.

Think Adoption First: For those considering a new pet for the holidays, keep in mind that millions of animals enter shelters every year with nearly half being euthanized, so Petco urges aspiring new pet parents to adopt. For those looking for a particular breed, a large portion of shelter animals are purebreds. There are also plenty of puppies  and kittens. During the weekend of January 7-8, 2012, every Petco store will host adoption events to help place animals in need of home during Petco’s monthly National Adoption Weekend event. For more information on pet adoption or to find a nearby store, visitwww.petco.com/adoption.

Relieving Anxiety: Cats and dogs often become anxious when they are in a new surrounding. Help calm new pets with Comfort Zone Feliway and D.A.P stress reducing pheromones. The Feliway pheromone mimics the natural comforting facial pheromones produced by cats to reduce stress-related behaviors and calm cats or kittens. The Dog Appeasing Pheromone (D.A.P) also mimics natural comforting pheromones to calm dogs, which can end barking, urinations, chewing, anxiety and other stress-related behaviors safely and naturally. Suggested Retail Price: $30.00-$46.99

Potty Training: Potty training can be one of the most frustrating parts of bringing a new dog into a home, but the fact of the matter is when a puppy has to go, they go. To help get new pet parents off on the right paw, Petco is offering free potty training seminars January 14-15, 2012 at 2 pm at all of their nationwide locations. This crate is easy to transport and has a resistant electro-coat finish. Plus, with the matching pink or blue mats, who can resist this fabulous “puppy shower” find? Keep Pups Playful: New pets are full of energy, especially if the adopted dog is a puppy. Adopting a pet during the holidays means the cold weather keeps them indoors more often than usual. Ten minutes of thinking play equals 45-minutes of active play, meaning these food and treat motivated games will give dogs what they need to stay healthy and entertained during colder months.Suggested Retail Price: $14.99-$19.99
