NASA Glenn Internal Communications Needs Improving
Cleveland -- Managers at the NASA Glenn Research
Center are working to improve internal communications at
the facility. The Columbia Accident Investigation Board
determined NASA's culture discouraged people from coming
forward to identify problems. NASA Glenn ranked last
among the space agency's eleven centers. A number of
changes have already been implemented. Changes are being
made at all of the agency's research facilities before
the next shuttle mission.
Fewer New Textbooks For Cleveland Schools
The Cleveland Schools district is facing some major cuts
across the board, and that could include textbooks. CEO
Barbara Byrd Bennet broke the bad news at a community
meeting last night. The district is dealing with a $90
million deficit along with having to balance the budget
by June 30th.
St. Clair Ave. Shut Down For Three Weeks
St. Clair Avenue is closed between Ontario and West
Third for the next three weeks for utility work. Watch
out for the detour signs. Motorist still have access to
area parking garages.
Mounted Police Join In Search For Missing Girl
The search continues for a missing 14-year-old Cleveland
girl who was last seen April 2nd. Gina DeJesus never
returned home from a west side middle school. The
mounted police are now involved in looking for Gina.
Friends and family will hold a vigil Friday for the
missing teen.
New Computers for Police Cars
The city of Cleveland is in the second phase of a three
phase program to better equip safety forces with the
latest computer and communications technology. The
mobile computers are installed in all police cars, this
will allow officers to receive information about
offenders even before their is interaction with them by
running license plates.
Cleveland Foundations Improving with Stock Market
Cleveland -- An improved stock market has resulted in
additional money for Ohio foundations benefiting
charities across the state. While still not at previous
levels, it's a major step in recovering from three years
of losses. The Ohio Grant makers Forum conducted a
recent survey that shows the state's nearly three
thousand foundations have assets totaling more than $13
billion, with about a third saying they would offer more
funding this year. Private foundations like Cleveland's
George Gund Foundation depend on success in the
investment market for their income.
Missing Girl Prompts Community Meeting
Cleveland -- A community meeting at a west side
middle school turned heated last night. Cleveland Mayor
Jane Campbell met with the family of Gina DeJesus and
residents to talk about child safety. DeJesus is the
14-year-old who has been missing for nearly a week. Some
who attended the meeting wanted to use the time to
complain about other issues like police layoffs. Some
walked out of the meeting, including the DeJesus family.
West Nile Virus On Its Way
Cleveland -- Officials at the Cuyahoga County Board of
Health are putting plans together to combat the West
Nile virus. They're asking people to look out for dead
birds that may be infected with the potentially deadly
disease. Experts say the virus, which is carried by
mosquitoes will likely hit when the weather gets warm.
It's too early to predict just how bad the virus will be
this year.
News Food Items Added to Stadium List
Cleveland -- A new addition is coming to Jacobs Field.
No, the Indians are not adding a new player -- the
stadium is adding several new food items to its menu.
Fans will have a chance to munch on Mexican, Asian and
traditional ballpark food. Opening pitch is Monday.
Officials say they are also in the process of sprucing
things up for the 10th anniversary.
Two Hurt In Factory Explosion
Cleveland -- An explosion at Cleveland's Kindt-Collins
company left two workers injured. A molding wax
container blew out windows, leaving the workers with
burns and other injuries. The cause of the blast is
under investigation. |
