Cedar
Point to Build Major New Thrill Ride for the 2003
Season Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE:
FUN),
has, for the fifth straight year, earned the title of
"Best Amusement Park In The World" for its
flagship park, Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio,
according to an international survey.
In
addition, three Cedar Point roller coasters were ranked
among the top 12 steel roller coasters in the world. The
survey is conducted annually by Amusement Today, the
popular Arlington, Texas-based publication that covers the
international amusement park industry. In addition to
being named "Best Amusement Park," Cedar Point
placed first for the fifth straight year in the very
important "Best Ride Capacity" category, which
measures how effectively and efficiently guests flow
through queue lines, and first in a new category,
"Best Games," for its overall selection of
games.
The
park also placed No. 2 in the "Best Souvenirs"
category and third in the "Friendliest Park"
category. According to the survey results, Millennium
Force earned top honors for a second year in a row. At 310
feet tall and speeds of 93 mph, Millennium Force is the
tallest and fastest roller coaster in North America.
Ranked No. 3 was Cedar Point's Magnum XL-200. With its
205-foot- tall first hill and speeds of 72 mph, Magnum has
been one of the most popular roller coasters in the world
since its debut in 1989. Also placing in the top 25 were
Cedar Point's Raptor at No. 12. "We are obviously,
once again, thrilled with the results of the Amusement
Today survey," said Dick Kinzel, president and chief
executive officer. "We are committed to providing the
best thrill rides and park atmosphere to our guests, and
these awards are a tangible and gratifying result of our
efforts."
The
Partnership also said it plans to build another major new
thrill ride at Cedar Point for the 2003 season. Parts of
the new ride have begun to arrive at the park and
construction is scheduled to begin after Labor Day.
