Browns

"Orange Rush" Corrals Texans

Mark Riley

Sporting Bright Orange "Alternate" Jerseys, the Cleveland Browns got back on the winning track with a convincing defeat of the Houston Texans 34-17. The Browns Defense hounded QB David Carr with 9 sacks on the day, and once again, the Special Teams came up with a huge play, a 95 yd. kick return for a TD by rookie sensation Andre Davis.

The spectacular kick return jump started the crowd who had been effectively taken out of the game after the Texans tossed a halfback option pass for a 39 yd. TD to take the lead on the Browns 14-10, early in the 3rd Quarter. From that point on, the defense really stepped up with 5 sacks of Carr, who played extremely well in the loss. Carr showed some serious poise for a rookie, checking off on as many as 3 pass routes before delivering picture perfect passes to a number of receivers, including ex-Brown JuJuan Dawson.

The "sack-fest" the Browns enjoyed could not have come at better time, as the Browns defense had not recorded a sack for 13 consecutive quarters. Mark Word, Tyrone Rogers and Kenard Lang all had 2 sacks a piece.

On the offensive side of the ball, Tim Couch had a good night passing, with yet another rookie, Quincy Morgan, grabbing a number of epic passes including a 41yd. TD in the corner in front of the Dawg Pound.

Cleveland's final TD came after LB (and ANOTHER rookie) Kevin Bentley recovered a fumble by Carr at the Texans 4yd.line. Jamel White sprinted to the corner of the end zone to put the exclamation point on a truly team effort.

It was great to see Tim Couch run off the field after the game to the cheers of  the faithful, and to note that he acknowledged them with a raised fist and the pumping of his helmet in the air. The Browns are now 3-4 and head to the Meadowlands for a tilt with the New York Jets next Sunday.
