American Express Collection Policy

Credit Card Collection Policy Legal But Not Ethical

Look very closely at the fine print when you sign up for an American Express credit card or any credit card for that matter. With congress reducing the financial and bankruptcy options of the average American citizen and credit card companies increasing the maximum monthly payment requirements, credit card holders will have a difficult time reducing their debt.

With most Americans being a missed paycheck away from being late on their credit card payments and layoffs from the auto and other industries announced, a record number of Americans will be in financial trouble this year.

Credit Card Collection Policy

So what is the policy of credit card companies like American Express and others?  With American consumers needing credit counseling in addition to collections help, credit card companies are outsourcing their collections to countries like India.  If you are late on your American Express Gold Card, or American Express Blue Card you can expect a call from someone from India at any hour of the day or night who can't speak English very well.

After that charade is complete,  American Express will send your account to a collections agency. The collections agency will have information (phone numbers, addresses, work info) on all of the card holders family members who have American Express Gold, American Express Blue and other American Express credit cards.

The American Express Collections agency will then call most of the card holders family, including their mother, father, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and children regardless of age claiming that they need to get a hold of the credit card holder.

All of this is done before contacting the credit card holder. This practice is abusive and unethical.

Our advice is not to use or accept an American Express Blue, American Express Gold, or other American Express credit card.
